Flying the Flag for Her Local Club

12/14/2021

Earlier this month Annabel Murcott flew the flag for her local club Annabel Murcott Schools of Tae Kwon Do and the Tae Kwon Do Association of Great Britain at the Pride in Peterborough Awards.

As a club we are very proud of our instructor, Annabel gives everything to her students and Tae Kwon Do.
Her dedication is
immeasurable, she wasn't keen on attending the awards for fear of her students missing out on training sessions! This was because of her dedication to her students in preparing them for an up and coming grading that took place last weekend.
Annabel attended the Awards Ceremony and evening dinner on Tuesday 7th December 2021. Of the 13 categories Annabel was 'Highly Commended' in 4 categories:

Pride of Peterborough Awards
  • Best Virtual Class/Online Activity Award - Highly Commended
  • Star Teacher/Chilcarer Award - Highly Commended
  • Community Hero Award - Highly Commended
  • Sporting Hero Award - Highly Commended

Aside Annbel's dedication, we genuinely can’t thank our instructors, students and parent enough for your support throughout this past year, we are amazed sometimes by the offers of help and encouragement and it really means a lot to us. We will never stop reminding you all that our success, is purely down to the support from students, parents and the best team of dedicated Black Belts we could ask for.

It was just the boost we needed to get back to the competition circuit to end the year, the Arnold Schwarzenegger event at the NEC put the TAGB back on the map and highlighted what an outstanding dedicated organisation they are. To end the year with the British Championships, with a staggering 1200 plus competitors, truly showed just how dedicated both Instructors and students are.

We will be working hard next year to make sure, wherever possible in the uncertain covid times ahead, we attend all the competitions we can and dedicate our time to all those going for their Black Belts in April and October.

Here is to an even more amazing 2022!

Annabel Murcott - Pride in Peterborough Award Nomination
We are pleased to announce that Annabel has been nominated for a Pride in Peterborough Award.

You may well  have seen that the Peterborough Telegraph have been running their annual Pride in Peterborough Awards campaign since October during which time they have been receiving nominations for worthy recipients for a Pride in Peterborough Award 2021. We are so delighted that Annabel Murcott has been nominated for an award!

Annabel will be attending the Award Ceremony and Dinner on the evening of Tuesday 7th December 2021 where the winners will be announced, it is taking place at the Holiday Inn West Thorpe Wood Peterborough. Her fellow instructors have vowed to cover all classes so she can attend!

Our Hero

Headed by Annabel Murcott and Dale Pollard, Annabel Murcott Schools of Tae Kwon Do have been running martial arts classes for nearly 30 years.

Being a grand master and world champion 7th Degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, allows Annabel (and her fellow instructors) to educate over 400 students. Keeping them focused, fit and motivated daily through zoom sessions, personal fitness plans and one-to-one sessions.

During lockdown Annabel tried her very best to keep spirit high, showing perseverance and true indomitable spirit. She is our true unsung hero!

Celebrating the Covid 19 Heroes and Community Champions of Peterborough

Now in their 23rd year, the Peterborough Telegraph is proud to launch the Pride In Peterborough Awards.

This year we will be recognising the incredible work of local people during the coronavirus outbreak; it is so important to thank those special individuals who have been working tirelessly during the crisis and helping keep our communities safe. The awards are to recognise and celebrate the unsung heroes of our community.

The Award Categories are:

  • Big Thank You Award – your opportunity to just say a BIG thank you to the unsung hero in your life.
  • Best Virtual Class – open to virtual classes, online activities, or events.
  • Care Sector Hero – This award is for a care professional, either in a care home or a carer in the home setting, who has gone the extra mile to support you or a family member during lockdown.
  • Inspiring Community Initiative Award – From helping the homeless to photographing people on their doorsteps, there have been so many projects out there full of community spirit. This award honours a campaign that has gone the extra mile to support their community during lockdown. The winning initiative has been recognised for uplifting the spirits of those around them and putting a smile on the faces of those in need.
  • Essential/ Key Worker Of The Year – This category is for the key or essential workers outside of the Health and Care sectors. Among others, it might be a shop worker, delivery driver, or postal worker. Tell us about their tremendous service and compassion in lockdown.
  • Child Hero – Tell us about a child’s actions that have made you proud and given you real hope for the future of our community.
  • Caring Neighbour Award – Lockdown life has changed our community in ways we could hardly have thought about since March and we have faced many challenges along the way but there has been a flipside to this. Have we been brought closer to our neighbours during the Pandemic? Has your neighbourhood been transformed during lockdown in some way or has one of your neighbours gone above and beyond?
  • Community Hero Award – The corona virus lockdown has seen a surge in charitable work, community groups and people simply looking out for each other, whether friends, family, neighbours, or strangers. Thousands of people in Peterborough have played a significant role in supporting their local communities and beyond. Tell us about your coronavirus community heroes.
  • Family Of The Year – Inspiring stories of family life during lockdown.
  • Sporting Hero – Playing sport may have stopped during the Pandemic, but behind our local clubs there are COVID-19 lockdown initiatives happening. The Peterborough Telegraph want to say Thank you to the unsung sporting heroes. Your teamwork and determination are not forgotten.
  • Star Teacher or Child carer – This award is for teachers, teaching assistants and childminders, nannies or childcare settings that have gone above and beyond whilst on lockdown.
  • NHS Hero Award – An award for any NHS worker who has touched your life, or those of your family and friends during the Pandemic.
  • Young Hero Award – Tell us about a young person’s actions that have made you proud and given you real hope for the future of our community.
